COP 3 - Initial Ideas - Colour Swatching

To kick-start the actual design process, I began by doing some simple colour swatching in order get a 'vibe' for each gender in terms of packaging.

Masculine;

I swatched three simple colour palettes - one with earthy neutral tones, one with a more nautical feel and another with a simple blue/green colourway.

I was quite keen on the earthy one but felt it was too plain so I decided to experiment with this a bit more.

I liked the idea of having a dash of orange within the earthy tones - I felt this way a nice way to add a bit of colour into an otherwise neutral palette. Orange was also a nice way of hinting at masculinity without being to explicit and simply picking blue.

I came across this image of a male-orientated cafe called 'Gentlemans Beans' and I just loved the vibe it had. The rusty orange worked really well alongside the neutral/earthy shades and I felt this could be a great source of inspiration for my own designs.

Feminine;

For the feminine designs, I was quite keen to stick with a simple pastel theme. I felt like this could be a nice way of alluding 'girliness' without using an outright barbie pink or purple. I quite liked the neutral creams alongside the blues  - this looked delicate and elegant without being overly feminine.

I came across this image of some kitchen vectors and I was instantly drawn to the colours used here. Although they weren't pastel, they had a lovely 'muted' tone to them that wasn't overly
'girly' yet alluded to femininity.
